Our travel guide offers descriptive and accurate information on travel, music, and philosophies from Hawaii to the Caribbean. Captain Ryan starts you off with user friendly key topics such as “Know the Lingo“ , “Drink Specials“ , “Local Foods” and “Local Products”. These topics are used as quick references to start your vacation on the right foot. “Captain’s Tips” can be found throughout the website and are created to highlight useful information. You may notice that Captain Ryan’s reviews do not include chain hotels, chain restaurants, time shares, or your typical “all-inclusive” resorts. Our island themed vacation guide is designed to be funky. Stuffy environments, glamorous accommodations, and “serving size” experiences have been kindly excluded by Captain Ryan. Expect to find detailed reviews of quality, one of a kind businesses with a casual “come as you are“ atmosphere. Remember, this is not just a vacation. This is a life changing experience. WORDS FROM THE CAPTAIN
This June I made my way to Key West, Florida with my family. It was exceptionally hot and balmy but I didn’t mind as I was in the blessed Conch Republic. As we walked the streets of Old Town, we were approaching Duval Street. I looked over at a store front and noticed the shop “Last Flight Out”. Surprisingly enough, I have walked by this store many times before but have never noticed it was there.
“Last Flight Out” was most obviously not your typical cheap t-shirt shop and the name of the store intrigued me. My family and I entered the store and browsed around. I came upon a paper back book with the title Last Flight Out: A State of Mind. I liked the front cover and flipped over to the back cover to read about the author, Clay Greager. His picture was on the cover and I quickly realized that the author was also the owner of the store and he was standing behind the counter. I proceeded to purchase the book from him. This was unique for me as I am not much of a reader. In fact I don’t think I have read a book in years excluding fishing manuals and medical texts.
Over the next few days, while soaking up sun at the Eden House, I couldn’t put the book down. Early on while reading the book I found a passage that moved me in a profound way. It was “The Trilogy of the Last Flight Out”.
THE TRILOGY OF THE LAST FLIGHT OUT by Clay Greager
First, you must DARE to dream…
about who you want to be,
where you’d like to go,
and what you’d like to do,
Then you must think positive…
get that STATE OF MIND
to help you through your journey.
Lastly, you must have the COURAGE
to pursue your goals…
and never stop reaching for your dreams!
The trilogy caused me to stop and ponder for a minute and reflect upon myself. I have always been a dreamer, even as a child. As a man, my wife will laugh at me and shake her head wondering where I come up with some of this stuff. I then realized why I was creating this website. The “Passport to Paradise” is my evolving state of mind and I am painting a picture of my paradise. Day by day I reach for my dreams and hope I have the courage to continue to do so. Maybe someday I’ll find paradise…or more likely someday paradise will find me.

DEPARTURE INFORMATION
Sudden withdrawal from paradise can be unusually awkward. This awkwardness often leads to difficulties transitioning on the return to the “real world”. Your new found spirit battles for existence as “time” attempts to regain its control over you. First signs of this transition are watchbands attaching themselves to ones wrist like shackles. Other signs include review of flight plans, hotel checkout, and setting the alarm clock for the dreaded first day back to work.
Over stimulation is a common side effect when returning from paradise. Your mind will still be on island time, while the rest of the world is marching rapidly out of control. Conforming to the structures of everyday life is inevitable yet I fight to hold on…one more sunset, one more happy hour, one more memory. Just one more day in paradise.
